Board Vacancies: Planning Commission & Civil Service Commission

The Charter Township of Ypsilanti has a vacancy both on the Planning Commission and Civil Service Commission.

The Planning Commission is scheduled on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month. Typically, the Commission meets once a month. The work sessions begin at 6:00pm, with the meeting following at 6:30pm. The Planning Commission can make recommendations to a zoning plan, districts, and ordinances, as well as approve special land uses, planned unit developments, and site plans.

The Civil Service Commission is scheduled on the third Wednesday of every other month beginning in January at 4:30pm, or special meetings as needed. The commission oversees the testing and hiring of firefighters for Ypsilanti Township. 

To qualify for the Planning Commission or Civil Service Commission, candidates must be a registered voter who has resided in the Charter Township of Ypsilanti for at least 30 days, be 18 years of age or older, and a U.S. citizen.

Those interested must send a letter of interest and resume to the Charter Township of Ypsilanti Clerk’s Office via email or deliver to the Clerk’s Office at the Civic Center (7200 S. Huron River Road, Ypsilanti, MI 48197). Submissions will be accepted until 12:00pm on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 (please note the Civic Center hours are 8:30am – 4:30pm, closed 12:00pm – 1:00pm for lunch). The Board of Trustees will consider these appointments at the next Board Meeting.
