Ypsilanti Township Partners with SensCy for Citizen Cyber Program

On February 2, 2024, the Ypsilanti Township Board of Trustees unanimously approved awarding the Citizen Cyber Educational Awareness program to the Washtenaw County-based cybersecurity organization, SensCy. They will provide cybersecurity training both for employees and residents. The Township received an impressive response from 25 vendors in response to the Request for Proposals, which highlights the growing concern of cyber security.

This partnership’s first event took place on April 1, 2024 at the Ypsilanti Township Civic Center. This innovative partnership is the first of its kind, offering up to 10,000 residents free cybersecurity awareness training. Supervisor Brenda Stumbo kicked off the meeting and shared that the increased number of residents she has heard from who have fallen victim to cyber threats inspired this idea. Then, SensCy’s Chief Client Success Officer David Behen gave his Cybersecurity 101 Presentation, where on April Fools Day he gave vital information to help residents to not “Be Fooled by Cyber Criminals.”

Supervisor Stumbo further stated that the response from the 55 residents who attended was overwhelmingly positive, with one stating that it was a great use of taxpayer money. Out of those 55 residents, 39 have signed up for the Citizen Cyber Program, which will deliver cybersecurity information awareness training straight to their email. All Ypsilanti Township residents are encouraged to sign up for this great, free opportunity.
